Wisdom Wednesday – “Everyone thinks we’re in the book business but we’re not. We’re in the *helping* business.”

This piece of advice ties directly to last week’s about how the absolute most vital piece of advice I’ve received in my 15+ years as a librarian is to do what you can to solve the problem of the person standing in front of you. In library school, I think I saw a stat that […]

Wisdom Wednesday – “What Are You Doing To Solve The Problem of the Person Standing in Front of You”

I’ve been trying to write a post summarizing some of the various tips, pieces of advice, koans of wisdom that I’ve collected over the years – mostly from my time in libraries but from other workplaces, reading of books articles and just talking to knowledgeable people I respect. As that post grew and grew, I […]

Secular Sunday – “The most unthinking among us…who would invade our schools and libraries and homes. I personally resent it bitterly.”

Secular Sunday – The Original Drag Queen Storytime?

2022 SPL Report To Our Community

Always interesting to look at other library system’s annual reports at what’s similar, what’s different and also to spark ideas and inspiration.

Secular Sunday – “Indiana public librarians forced to remove half the books in the teen section as demanded by unelected library board including a pro-book banning pastor”

Just as we watched drug poisonings and Narcan training spread across American libraries before becoming more common in Canada, I suspect religiously-motivated book banning requests (and religious board members being even more activist in trying to direct library’s directions, not just individual books) is the next thing American libraries will export to Canada. Music Monday – “Experience Regina” (Well, It Was An Experience To Be in Regina This Weekend Anyhow!)

“Experience Regina” Parody (Watch It To See Some of Regina’s “Highlights”) You may have heard that Tourism Regina recently rebranded. It started with a teaser clip and message on social media at the start of March: It’s All Happening… Let’s push the narrative; the same old is boring. Our city is changing, and that means […]

Covid Is Not “Over” (And It Never Will Be) But…

…there are signs that, for myself personally, it’s in a different phase compared to the heights of masking/social distancing/rapid testing that have been much of my (and society’s) approach for the past three years. * I mostly mask when in crowds and/or as a sign of respect and understanding if I’m interacting with someone who’s […]

Saturday Snap – “Do you need a campaign volunteer who has helped candidates win at least 10% of the campaigns he’s worked on?”

Chief Cadmus Delorme of Cowessess First Nation is one of, if not the most, high profile Indigenous leaders in Saskatchewan for his work in business, child welfare and much more.  (Unfortunately, part of his high profile, including an interview for CBS’s “60 Minutes” show, is for very tragic reasons.) Above is a pic of myself and […]
