Throwback Thursday – #tbt – The First Signs of Dementia (February 2018)

It was during a family trip to Mexico in February 2018 that Shea and I had our first conversations about what appeared to maybe possibly be the smallest signs of dementia.

Dementia is a “disease of omission” which means doctors have to basically rule out everything else that can present like dementia before they diagnose dementia.  Anxiety.  Depression.  Stress.  Concussions/head injury – recent and/or repeated.  Brain tumour.  Parkinson’s.  Vitamin deficiencies.  Alcoholism.  Medicine side effects.  Sleep apnea.  Hydrophelitis.  Thyroid issues.

The time between us noticing symptoms and mom being diagnosed was basically five years and then another couple after that before she was unable to stay at home and had to be put into a care home.

(And my #MemoryLane Category has never been more ironic!)
