Secular Sunday – The Original Drag Queen Storytime?

Saturday Snap – “Get A Dog” They Said, “It’ll Be Fun” They Said.

Also, this is an (attempted) picture of me walking the dog at four in the morning when camping this weekend.

(He doesn’t get up often in the middle of the night but when he does at home, at least we can send him out the back door into our fenced yard instead of going for a big hike to smell every patch of grass and sign pole in the park looking for the best spot to pee!)

Friday Fun Link – Fuck Professionalism: Creating A Workplace That Works For All

So much of what we’re taught to believe from our earliest days, by our parents, by our schools, by popular culture, is outdated, incorrect and potentially even harmful such as the notion of “professionalism“.

Throwback Thursday – #tbt – One Year Ago, I Had Shingles (June 2022)

…replaced on my roof about a year after a major hailstorm ripped through north Regina and punched machine-gun holes in most houses’ siding in our neighbourhood.  (Our next door neighbours just got their siding done this week!)

In a weird way, this was perfect timing as our house had original shingles that were end-of-life so having them paid for by insurance was awesome.

And I’m not super-afraid of heights but our roof has a very steep pitch so kudos to the people who do roofing as I’d probably crap my pants up there!

2022 SPL Report To Our Community

Always interesting to look at other library system’s annual reports at what’s similar, what’s different and also to spark ideas and inspiration.

Track and Field Day

Managed to pop over to see a bit of Sasha’s year-end track and field meet during my lunch hour today.  My folks were in so they were also able to swing by then even got to give Sasha a ride home after.

Great day!

If You’re Tired All The Time, It’s Not Your Fault

Fascinating article about changes in the way people sleep and why.  (As usual, capitalism and the rich are to blame.)

Good sleep is a human right, dammit!

Music Monday – “What would you say/If I took those words away?/Then you couldn’t make things new/Just by saying ‘I love you'”

It’s always ironic than when my life is the busiest – work, home, family – both immediate and extended, camping, volunteer stuff, medical appointments, helping my parents, etc. etc. etc. – is when I’m most likely to end up not doing daily blog posts (I frequently miss a day but then do it the following morning.  But I should probably get that reversed and *proactively* write tomorrow’s post today so I’m always ahead by one.  But I sometimes like the ability to be timely with the day’s news or whatever.)

Anyhow, that’s neither here nor there other than to say I haven’t posted since last Music Monday while a busy week has gone by in between.

But it’s also a reminder to appreciate the busyness, the stress, the time with family and friends.  Because  heard from my folks last week that a woman I knew growing up had passed away from surgery complications after living with MS for most of her life.

It’s that small town thing where we’re all connected – Renee’s dad was a music teacher and even played guitar at my sister’s wedding ceremony.  Her mom worked in an office I visited twice a year (or more often if I had a cavity!) ;-).  Mr. Carleton also taught English though I never had him which is too bad as he was just a brilliant guy all around – one of if not my favourite teachers of all-time.

I happened to have a random conversation with Renee’s older sister just a few weeks ago and got an update on Renee’s health among other things – she talked about her sister’s health not being great but also her constant positivity and optimism.  Obviously she had no clue of what was about to happen a few weeks later and it’s an eerie conversation in retrospect.

It’s weird that my most vivid memory of Renee is her singing this song solo at some band concert in high school and thinking how brave she was to stand alone in that spotlight.
