Debate Sensation, Ken Bone, on Jimmy Kimmel

It’s so funny how things go viral in our Internet age – sometimes it’s intentional, sometimes it’s not.   Sometimes it’s mean, sometimes it’s fun.  And sometimes it starts mean but has redemption.

But in this case, it’s great that Ken Bone, who became an Internet sensation after asking a question at Sunday night’s Presidential debate, and who may have been the butt of the joke at a different point in time, turns out to actually be someone who’s intelligent, clever, and very clearly in on the joke as his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel shows.

[Update: And in trying to seize his 15 minutes, Bone revealed his Reddit user name for an AMA which led to people combing through his post history, finding a few controversial remarks, and making many who found him “cuddly” have to re-examine their initial impression.]

Saturday Snap – Terrible Twos Have Definitely Become The Trying Threes

Sasha’s making the most of being three these days.  In the last few weeks, she’s…

  • Poured KD noodles and cheese powder on the floor of her bedroom (I think she also poured some powder in her sock drawer for good measure)
  • Cannot go into the bathroom without playing with everything in her mom’s make-up drawer.  (When questioned why she does this, said she wants to “plump up my lips”)
  • Was caught dipping toilet paper into the toilet she’d just peed in so she could “wet wipe” herself
  • Regularly gets food or drinks (granola bars, juice boxes, etc.) out of the cupboard or fridge, has one bite/sip, then leaves them.
  • We actually put the door knob handle that prevents toddlers from getting into cupboards *back* on our pantry door.  She promptly ripped it in two in a She-Hulk burst of anger!
  • Spilled a whole box of spaghetti that she got out of the pantry in our hallway floor
  • Regularly does all the usual stunts kids do at bedtime – “I need to pee”, “I need a drink of water”, “I need the hall light on”, “I need the hall light off”, “I need my dolly”, “I need a Kleenex”, etc.
  • Hid my slipper in one of our kitchen cupboards.  When I asked her why she did that, she said “For an Easter Egg hunt!” (It’s three weeks to Halloween.)  Oh, and as part of the Easter Egg Hunt, I found out the hard way that she’s shoved a Lego figure deep into the toe of the slipper!
  • After stopping at McDonald’s for a treat after swimming recently, she was carrying on.  When her mom tried to tell her to behave, she threw her arms up and yelled “Welcome to my circus!”

(The scariest part is another parent once warned us: “Terrible twos and trying threes are nothing – wait until they hit the fucking fours!”) 😉

Friday Fun Link – An Exchange I Never Thought I’d Hear on CNN

This is exponentially the craziest election I’ve ever seen.

People are observing that instead of an “October Surprise”, Donald Trump appears to have an “October Advent Calendar” with a shocking new revelation or error every single day.

Today’s video of him making crude comments about cheating on his wife, an actress he’s about to meet, and how his “star power” allows him to grab women by their genitalia makes me think (but knowing I’ve been wrong on this many times before) that nothing else crazier could happen.

I also feel obligated to note that the flip side of being a strong supporter of freedom of speech (which I am) is that you are also not immune from possible repercussions from exercising that right.  And with the supporters who are withdrawing their endorsement, calling for Trump to drop out of the race, or other non-supporters dropping further bombshells, Trump is definitely facing a massive backlash for what he said.

At any rate, MetaFilter continues to be my refuge during this election so I’d encourage anyone interested in following developments to check out their latest election thread.

Throwback Thursday – #tbt – Pumpkin Patch (October 2008)

That moment when you realise that your blog is so old that you posted things in real time nearly a decade ago and now you’re posting them as Throwback Thursday posts!

Donald Trump Definitely Wants To Be President, Right?

It’s crazy how successful Donald (great of Hillary to call him this during the debate – both to reinforce he has no formal title and also not to reinforce his “Trump” brand) been up until now considering he’s running almost exactly the campaign you’d run if you wanted to flame out in the most spectacular way, ruining your reputation forever.

Yet here we are.

Here’s one of the songs I taped at the Fred Eaglesmith show on Saturday night (which just happens to be one of my favourite Fred Eaglesmith songs of all-time.)
