There’s Something Special About Watching The #Oilers Lose In Edmonton

Whether it’s the crowd being silenced live at Rogers Place or studiously staring into their nachoes at a sports bar in the West Edmonton Mall, watching the Oilers lose while on a holiday in Edmonton feels so much better than watching from a distance.

And former Flame, Mike Smith, is a huge part of the Oilers’ troubles which is also part of the joy…

Happy Two’s Day!

Music Monday – “And night after night we stay out drinking under the streetlights/It’s forty below oh but I don’t mind cause you’re right there to hold me tight/Cause I’m drinking in Edmonton with you/I’m drinking in Edmonton with you”

Drinking in Edmonton” – The Worst Guy

Secular Sunday – A Rare Atheist Prayer

We’re in Edmonton on holidays.

The downtown is like a war-zone due to all the construction.

Through the mists of concrete dust in the air, you can see the beautiful Rogers Place.

By all accounts, Rogers is the nirvana of NHL arenas.

The Oilers are on a five-game winning streak after getting a new coach.

We watched the Oilers win yesterday while having supper in a pub near our hotel.

I had to force myself not to cheer when the Jets scored then looked like they might have a third period comeback.

We’re going to see them play the Minnesota Wild tonight live and in person.

Please all-powerful god, let me witness the Oilers losing tonight!

Thank you Zeus!

Friday Fun Link – Off To Edmonton

Would love to be heading to Mexico or Cuba but instead, we’re off to Edmonton for a “hot” holiday for a week.

I may or may not post through the week.

Throwback Thursday – #tbt – Premier Scott Moe Declares A State of Emergency (March 2020)

Now that Saskatchewan is in the midst of being one of the first provinces to remove basically all Covid-19 restrictions, stopping reporting Covid-19 stats except on a weekly basis and just generally pretending the pandemic is over because…reasons, I thought it’d be a nice bookend to revisit that initial press conference where Premier Moe first declared a state of emergency…

Music Monday – “We’re gonna spite our noses/Right off of our faces/There won’t be nothin’ but big old hearts/Dancin’ in our eyes.”

Any woman who would let me play this song as a “Last Dance” song at the end of the night during our wedding reception (to counter-point our first dance song) is okay by me.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Shea!  Love you very much!
