Exactly one year ago today, we were preparing for a very unusual Covid-birthday for Sasha, only a month after Covid hit. On April 16, we held a birthday without many of the things you’d normally have with the main thing we missed was a gathering of friends and maybe a table at Chuck E. Cheese or the Science Centre.
A year later, it’s hard to believe things have changed so much and so little but once again, we’re planning a party at home without an outing or any friends.
But at least vaccines have arrived and hopefully next year we can have.a giant blow-out with fireworks and lasers and, as per Sasha’s request, BTS singing “Happy Birthday”! 🙂
Watching this show now and over the years, a series of buzzed upon shows ranging from “Breaking Bad” to “The Wire” to “Sons of Anarchy” to “Yellowstone” along with various others which fit in that “Must Watch” category, I wondered if there were any commonalities…
* Strong writing (of course)
* Cool soundtrack, whether Americana (Yellowstone) or British Alternative (Peaky Blinders)
* Usually centered around family dynamics (Breaking Bad), workplace dynamics (The Wire) or both (Yellowstone)
* Ensemble casts but usually a strong young male is the main protagonist
* Often has a strong-willed female mother/sister
* Crime and violence are inherent elements to almost every bingeable drama
* Multi-season arcs with escalating stakes each season
* Unexpected deaths of main characters
* Multiple shocking twists
Those are a few off the top of my head. What am I missing?
Shea and I are now onto “Peaky Blinders” for our latest must-watch TV series (what’s the opposite of binging where you watch one or two episodes a night, slowly, over time?) and part of the appeal is a kick-ass soundtrack…
This idea is growing in awareness and after the rush to create CERB a year ago, more and more people are seeing the benefit of some form of a universal guaranteed income.
I’m getting more and more interested in smart devices with my most recent purchase being three smart floodlights which I installed in my garage so that the neighbours can enjoy my obsession too!
Sharing my insight about the Flames’ season with the good folks at CalgaryPuck (of note, there are only a handful of sites that both still exist and also pre-date when I began using the “Headtale” alias for every site I joined. CalgaryPuck, which I joined in 2002 soon after we moved to Calgary, is one of them!)
“Support Local” takes many forms. With the lack of live music, why not support a local musician or band by buying their songs (especially a timely one like this one which also has a great video!)
