My Favourite Britney Spears Song…

Ooops, I did it again…

The blob was down again due to bandwidth issues.  (Hmm, blob could be taken literally in this case – damn fat web site!)  Last month when it went down, they told me they'd double my bandwidth on an ongoing basis but I talked to them today and it seems like that didn't “stick”.  Hopefully the problem will be solved now.

Some random thoughts…
– either thousands of people are hitting this page per month or my mother-in-law is hitting refresh thousands of times by herself.  (Probably a mix of both.)
– for those of you who do refresh this page a bit “obsessively” or have an automatic reload on your RSS feed, don't worry about it.  It's my responsibility to make sure the page is available and as someone who wrote me offline observed, I guess I'm a victim of my own success in many ways (or being punished by going with a company with a really low bandwidth limit!)
– no, I won't be putting banner ads on the site anytime soon to help pay for more bandwidth! 😈

Thanks for your patience and understanding about these problems.  I think there are two types of readers out there – those who read to see what's going on with me and my life and those who are reading to see what's going on with FIMS (again, the lines aren't 100% distinct.)  But because of this, I have a feeling that my bandwidth is going to drop off significantly in a month or so when I'm gone.  So hopefully this won't be an issue again!

  1. Everyone hates banner ads, but merchandise like socks and underwear are always a hit… Aren't they? Nevermind.
    Cheers

  2. of course we'll still check in — to see what's up with Oscar, the librarian-baby!
On a completely unrelated note: Yesterday as I headed off to observe the London Public Library's Board meeting, my husband commented that I'd dressed up (I was wearing a skirt instead of jeans). I said Yeah, that' s so I'll fit in at the library, and look like a librarian.
Beatrice (my 11 yr old daughter) said: ” You don't look like a librarian at all”.
“WHy not?” I asked, self-consciously looking down at my skirt to make sure there wasn't any flour on it from an earlier baking session.
She stared at my face. “Well, cause all the real librarians wear make-up.” She recently started sneaking her big sister's eyeliner, so this has been a sore point.
And before I could start making excuses, Beatrice said she checks this on a regular basis and… ALL the children's librarians wear makeup — so I couldn't play that card.
So, get out your eyeshadow and mascara, Jason, if you wanna fit in!
But I'll find out whether or not you fit in your future library job — cause I'm gonna keep reading this blob come hell or high water.
    Linda

  3. Well, I have a big list of t-shirt slogans listed on this blog somewhere. No reason I couldn't expand to socks and underwear – is “Dewey” trademarked as a brand name for the underwear line?

  4. That's a great story. I'm not sure about my make-up skills but if that's what it takes to get a job…
