Word Sandwich is sort of like the old Mastermind game but with words instead of colours. Pick a five letter word and the game tells you if you're either “higher” or “lower” than the hidden word alphabetically starting with the first letter and winnowing it down with each succeeding one.

Most. Frustrating. Game. Ever!
At least with Mastermind you could use logic to riddle it out. You knew on any given move how many pegs were in the right spot, and how many were right colour but wrong spot.
This “higher” or “lower” bit … when there are infinitely more possibilities than with Mastermind, is not all that helpful. Does it apply to the first letter in the word, the second, the third … how the heck do you know which letters are right and which are wrong?
Closest I got was guessing “mates” as my last word, and the word was “mated” but, again I say, this game is HARD. And therefore tantalizingly frustrating. Damn you Jason Hammond for introducting a delicious time waster.
It's not a problem with my vocabulary (these are only five letter words after all!) but my creativity.
I get right down to the end then I just blank on a word that fits between, for example, “groan” and “gruel” (it was “grope”).
