I don't think there is a consensus. I usually capitalize it when I must use it, or rephrase to say “online”…I kind of think it'll go lowercase eventually, though.
Oh, look, there's a Wikipedia article on it, with some interesting discussion on the talk page.
Of course there's a Wikipedia page for that – why am I not surprised?
