Wisdom Wednesday – Actions, Not Words

I’ve been thinking about actions vs. words a lot lately. One of the things that really brought home this important distinction was when I had to leave the Regent Place branch of Regina Public Library after eight years as Branch Head following a re-org of supervisors and managers. It was a pretty emotional time and […]

Insane Sub-Two Hour Marathon Run

Eliud Kipchoge’s 1:59:40 marathon run is truly insane when you break down the numbers: ??4:35 per mile pace (the record for one mile is 3:43 and he kept the pace 26x) ??OR 2:50 per KM pace (he did it 42x and each kilometre was within 2:48 to 2:52)??The average men’s marathon… pic.twitter.com/zGJ4LI6rhm — Trung Phan […]

Submarine Billionaires

Not to mention the insane wastefulness of spending $250,000 for a five-minute glimpse of the Titanic.  Imagine the good that money could’ve done otherwise.  Or contrast the media attention and “all hands on deck” search and rescue operation which was basically guaranteed to be futile while boatloads of refugees are ignored completely. Guess what?  I […]

University of Western Ontario Is One of Only Twenty Universities Worldwide To Get Top Rating (And Only One in Canada)

I really thought my attending the University of Western Ontario might drag the rating down – yes, even nearly two decade later.  But luckily UWO is still an extremely prestigious University even if they allow pretenders like myself to darken their halls. 😉

Secular Sunday – “The most unthinking among us…who would invade our schools and libraries and homes. I personally resent it bitterly.”

Introducing Apple Vision Pro

My Apple stocks are either going to sky rocket or crash hard on this news! 😉 If your promotional video is indistinguishable from something you'd see in a particularly dystopian episode of Black Mirror, maybe time to reconsider? https://t.co/6E2gn4gwTC — stephensben at bluesky (@stephens_ben) June 5, 2023

Secular Sunday – The Original Drag Queen Storytime?

Biggest Challenge: “We’re a small city with a relatively big stadium.”

Yes.  This is quite the challenge we face here in our little prairie city that’s run by people who want to pretend we’re a much bigger city like Calgary or Edmonton or Winnipeg so they push to build giant state-of-the art arenas.  And ball stadiums.  And the best football stadium in the country while showing […]

Music Monday – “We’ve come so far and we’ve reached so high/And we’ve looked each day and night in the eye/And we’re still so young and we hope for more/But remember this…”

Howard Donald (55) is the oldest member of Take That who performed as a trio at the Coronation Concert yet with his shaggy haircut and grey beard, he is the one I resemble the most. Hell, even their slow-mo dance steps are a far cry from their energetic boy band routines in the mid-1990s in […]

Secular Sunday – “Indiana public librarians forced to remove half the books in the teen section as demanded by unelected library board including a pro-book banning pastor”

Just as we watched drug poisonings and Narcan training spread across American libraries before becoming more common in Canada, I suspect religiously-motivated book banning requests (and religious board members being even more activist in trying to direct library’s directions, not just individual books) is the next thing American libraries will export to Canada.
