The leaves on the trees are turning, we’ve been out “leaf crunching” as Pace calls it and I agree with Shea that “if it wasn’t followed by winter, fall might just be my favourite season”. I don’t know if this Britpop one hit wonder has anything to do with the autumn but it’s called “October […]
R.E.M., an alternative favourite of the 1980’s who parlayed that early attention into being one of the most successful bands of the 1990’s (and then one of the most uneven bands of the 2000’s) announced their break-up today (given their politics – and the amicable nature of the break – perhaps fittingly on World Peace […]
The Westboro Baptist Church are a truly odious group of folks (widely referred to as a hate group) who travel around “protesting” various events that they somehow think are connected to homosexuality. But when they chose to protest a recent Foo Fighters concert, the band had a response planned. (Of course this raises questions about […]

I understand why Steven Page chose to perform a cover of “Hallelujah” at the Jack Layton funeral on Saturday (apparently it was the last song Jack listened to as he slipped away.) Still, Shea and I had our jaws drop when he recently started singing “If you can’t make her say oooh-oooh-oooh, make her say ahh-ahh-ahh!” […]
A huge collection of countdown overviews for the last few decades including, for example, the year I graduated high school… (via Reddit)
I always think these reality show stars – Susan Boyle, Paul Potts, etc. – who are dumpy looking and/or have a sob story are probably exaggerated (along with the editing and dramatic music introducing them) for maximum effect. But if there’s even a grain of truth to stories like this one, it’s still pretty amazing…
In my excitement to post a 1980’s country song that captures my post-long weekend camping bliss yesterday, I neglected what would have been a perfectly timed Music Monday post. So instead, you get an extremely rare “Tunes Tuesday” post to share the good news that Saskatoon band, The Sheepdogs, won a contest to become the […]
