Music Monday – “I still remember when thirty was old/And my biggest fear was September when he had to go/A few cards and letters and one long distance call/We drifted away like the leaves in the fall”

This is one of those songs that I have to rewind and listen to an extra time or two every time it comes on. I came across this version which is arguably more poignant than the original as Ms. Carter is now singing about youthful innocence from a perspective of an older woman rather than […]

The Years Have Flown By: Happy 50th Anniversary Ray & Janet Hammond!

A couple weeks ago, I took my parents on a charter flight as a unique way to see how the years have flown by as we visited a few significant locations from their life ahead of their 50th wedding anniversary I was originally going to do the flight on their actual anniversary which happens to […]

Music Monday – “This is where we test out our replacement needs/This is where we’re knitting mitts for refugees/This is where we medicate in bathroom stalls/This is where we call home from a payphone down the hall”

On Feb 25, 2019, Winnipeg’s Millennium Library installed airport-style security screening. This led to a massive drop in attendance. Many no longer feel welcome in this free public space. Six Seriously Awesome Smart Device Tips & Tricks

Lots of things I didn’t know on this list.

Music Monday – “I’m alright with a slow burn/Takin’ my time, let the world turn/I’m gonna do it my way, it’ll be alright/If we burn it down and it takes all night/It’s a slow burn, yeah”

“Slow Burn” – Kasey Musgraves

Music Monday – “The secret rules of engagement are hard to endorse/When the appearance of conflict meets the appearance of force”

“Grace Too” – Twin Flames (Tragically Hip Cover)

Music Monday – “Got to give us what we want/Gotta give us what we need/Our freedom of speech is freedom or death/We got to fight the powers that be”

Rolling Stone has totally remade their “Best Songs of All-Time” list from scratch. Still probably a bit too heavy on Boomer Rock Classics but at least they’re trying… I posted the #1 pick just a few months ago so will post the #2 song which definitely shows how the list has changed… “Fight The Power” […]

Friday Fun Link – Ram Ranch (NSFW)

I’m not sure what I’ve been listening to or what I’ve done wrong in my life generally but had to chuckle when this song I never heard before came up on the “Shuffle” play mode of my streaming service driving home from work the other day.  Good thing the person beside me at the red […]

Music Monday – “I’m just a singer of simple songs/I’m not a real political man/I watch CNN, but I’m not sure I can tell you/The difference in Iraq and Iran” or “Hey Uncle Sam, put your name at the top of his list/And the Statue of Liberty started shakin’ her fist/And the eagle will fly man, it’s gonna be hell/When you hear mother freedom start ringin’ her bell”

Is it possible to track the polarization of American politics to two very different country songs released in the wake of 9/11 – one contemplative and questioning while the other is aggressive and angry? Not saying this is the reason politics is so polarized but definitely a reflection of a moment where American politics got […]

Music Monday – “And Cody says, ‘He didn’t raise the dead’ Says ‘religion’s just a trick/To keep hard-working folks in line”/He says it makes his stomach sick.”

“Cody” – The Killers
