Saturday Snap – Pandamonium!

Pandas Adjusting Wonderfully to Calgary Zoo

We didn’t have many plans for our week off in August (ten days counting weekends on either end) but a chance conversation with a library patron has us heading to Calgary for a few days. We’d been talking about visiting the Calgary Zoo to see the pandas since they were announced as coming.  But we […]

Throwback Thursday – #tbt – Public Library Cuts Again? #abpoli (June 2010)

It seems like one of the highest priorities for any conservative government is targeting the funding of public libraries – in Newfoundland (May 2016), in Saskatchewan (March 2017), in Ontario (April 2019), and now in Alberta (August 2019 (although to be fair, Jason Kenney’s Conservatives haven’t cut yet but are withholding 50% in advance of […]

Secular Sunday – Why Do Democrats Keep Snubbing Atheists?

Although less likely to vote as a block like various religious sects, there’s still a huge untapped voter base if someone would directly appeal to atheists/agnostics/secularists/nonbelievers.

(Belated) Throwback Thursday – #tbt – That’s A Switch! (April 2008)

Pace used his saved up birthday/Christmas/babysitting money to buy himself a $500 Nintendo Switch the other day – a long ways from when he was a year old and having fun on the $50 desktop computer I bought from Southeast Regional Library after they decommissioned it.

46 Movies That Are So Clever, They’ll Have You Thinking For Days

I’ve probably only seen about half of the movies on this list but still think this is film at its best.

(Belated) Secular Sunday – America’s Epidemic of Empty Churches

America has an epidemic of abandoned churches but they could always look to convert them into libraries!

(Belated) Saturday Snap – Giant Checkers

Having a fun day at Nickle Lake’s activity shack (which, almost unbelievably, they chose to call “The Beaver Shack” during a contest last summer!) However, it shall always be “Nickle Make” to me after the name I submitted! 😉

Music Monday – “Well, Canada’s been good to us/We’ve a living and a home/We’ve all got central heating air/And most are on the phone/I’m a citizen of both countries/And very proud to be/For the thistle and the maple leaf/Are the emblems of the free”

Happy Canada Day! I recently re-discovered this photo of myself and four other four Canadians on exchange to the University College of Ripon & York St. John (say that three times fast!) in 1995. I can’t remember the impetus for our fashion choice – maybe at a dance or for the new student orientation? – […]

Throwback Thursday – #tbt – First & Last Day of School (September 2018/June 2019)

The last day of school is the perfect day for Throwback Thursday. I love how Sasha’s face changes from resignation and uncertainty in the first picture to utter joy and relief in the second. (And even Pace’s near-teenaged face has a hint of smile to it today compared to September as well!) 🙂
