Music Monday – "Whoo-whoot!"

This video is called “A Glorious Dawn” – Carl Sagan ft. Stephen Hawking (Cosmos Remix) and if that doesn't hint at how much coolness is in store for you when you click play below, I have only one word – auto-tune!

(found via a Reddit thread on songs that were so awesome you played them at least 10 times in a row)

Regina Public Library Upgrading to New System

The launch of the province-wide library system, SILS, is getting more and more media attention with Saskatoon being the first system to go live next week.  Here's an article from our local daily newspaper about the new arrangement.

Not sure if I mentioned this before but I think that with over 300 branches involved across the province, SILS will be the biggest consortium in the world, at least as far as I know.  (Georgia Pines has 280 members if memory serves.)

Saturday Snap – Glowing at the Arcade

We took Pace to an indoor playground yesterday since it's been -30 here for a week and we were starting to go stir crazy.  This was a shot we snapped in the playground's arcade area which has black lights in the ceiling:

Friday Fun Link – Library Arcade (December 11, 2009)

The links are broken but I still have to post them because they sound pretty wild.   Apparently Carnegie Melon University developed a couple flash games a couple years ago – one about how to please patrons and one to test a person's skills in shelving under the LC system.

Castaway

Got the cast off today so I typed a big, long entry with various thoughts on the experience.  But Firefox crashed just as I was about to post it so this is what you get instead…

Oh-oh: Books of the Decade

Well, the noughties aren't quite over but that hasn't stopped various “Best of the Decade” lists from starting to appear including this one of the Top 50 Books of the 2000's (including some mini-essays on some of the most notable ones.)

My iTunes Library Is My "Pending" List – I'll Pay Everybody Eventually…

…when I win the lottery or become a multi-billion dollar corporation, whichever comes first.

(And why is the Alanis song, “Ironic” an ear worm that just burrowed into my brain?)

Music Monday – Stanford Mobile Phone Orchestra

This is a bit outside my normal Music Monday posts but when I heard about this “orchestra” which plays music using only iPhone apps, I just had to pass it along.

The iPhone truly is amazing and the App Store which makes the iPhone the “swiss army knife of the digital age” is a big part of the reason why…

Gratitude: A Story of a Computer, Vomit and What It Means To Be A Parent

I linked to this from Facebook and posted it to Redit but thought I'd put it here for posterity as well since it's so good.  (And if I'm serious about a “Sentimental Sunday” recurring post feature, this fits right in!)

Gratitude.
