Let’s go *way* back to my very first blog post back in February 2006, nearly two months into my MLIS program and thinking “What can I possibly take up as a hobby that will help me procrastinate with assignments *and* be something I’m still doing twenty years later?!?”

Especially for public libraries and doubly so having an RN wife who’s entire job is working with high risk pregnancies, knowing that every single day, the wrong decision could result in bad health outcomes or even death for a mother and/or baby.
Here’s how I often frame it: “Libraries aren’t heart attacks and handcuffs even though some patrons act like they’ll die if they don’t get their John Grisham hold soon. While the work we do is important, it’s also not to the same level as healthcare, emergency services and others who deal with life and death every single day.”
So why do so many staff act like libraries are in the same category? Feelings of inadequacy? Trying to justify high salaries? Gain respect?
If one person says it, it’s psychotic.
If one hundred people say it, it’s a cult.
It’s one million people say it, it’s a religion.
My brother-in-law and his wife (and their young son who saved his money to help contribute!) got an above ground pool for their acreage which is halfway between where we camp at Nickle Lake and Weyburn.
Still too cold for me but Sasha and her cousin were brave enough to try it out. Will be a good excuse to go for a visit in July when it’s super hot out! 🙂

Instead of just posting a random picture from the past, I thought I’d try something new and post a link to a long ago article to take advantage of the fact that I have kept this blog going for nearly twenty years (!) which means its going to qualify for a pension soon!
And what better post to link back to first than the one when Pace was born given how he just turned 18 a few days ago.
