Music Monday – "Fireflies and the stars in the sky/And the gently glowing eye from your cigarette"
I could easily do 52 weeks of Music Monday posts featuring only catchy power-pop Britpop songs circa 1995. (I do admit – this is one crappy video though – looks like a Red Hot Chili Peppers outtake. You can check out the US video for the song to see which you prefer.)
Music Monday – "Up at a decent hour, I never ate yet/Got a little Johnny Cash in the old tape deck."
Music Monday – "You gotta sing, sing, sing, sing out loud/Doesn't matter if you stay on track"
It's not where I got the name for this recurring feature but did you know there's an advocacy campaign to promote music education that's actually called Music Monday? Here's a catchy little a capella number from Serena Ryder that's the theme song for the cause which will be sung by school children across Canada on […]
Music Monday – "Everything moves real slow when it's forty below"
Stolen from my Facebook status update last night: “Congrats on joining the rest of the developed world, USA! Now you just need to get rid of the death penalty and implement the metric system!”The American Dream is a big deal south of the 49th but I think they've got a good start on the Canadian […]
Friday Fun Link – "Happy New Year Luie!" (March 19, 2010)
I was going to save this for Music Monday but it's too good to not share right away. As one YouTube commenter observes, is this like looking at the roots of the delta slide blues guitar style?(via MetaFilter)
Music Monday (Okay, Tuesday) – "I like to chug it so it feels really danceable"
Q TV from CBC Radio has a new (?) series where they get their guests to explain how to play one of their hits. Here's Hawksley Workman being entertaining as always in explaining how to play “Safe & Sound”:
Music Monday – "I got a letter from the government the other day/Opened it and read it/It said they were suckers/They wanted me for their army or whatever"
When I was in England in 1995, this song (and the album it appeared on) were consistently rated at or near the top of the “best of” lists for that year by the NME, Melody Maker and Q.
Music Monday – "We are the 'what' in 'what's new'."
The Olympics are over and the reactions are all over the place from claims from a perhaps unexpected source (Dave Bidini, not the National Post) that Canada has been changed for the better forever to claims that the debt will weigh down on our citizens for decades. Anyhow, for today's Music Monday, I thought I'd […]
FTRW 2010 – Music Monday "Listen, little girl, it's near the hour…I've got the righteous power"
So yeah…I was trying to think of a good clip to feature for Music Monday now that it's Freedom to Read Week. I thought about posting Elvis' infamous early Milton Berle appearance which led to him only being filmed from the waist up when he later appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. But that's pretty […]
