Happy May Day!

Especially relevant with the new Saskatchewan Employment Act being proclaimed the other day…

Free Public Library Cards at Edmonton Public Library Will Continue

The subject of user fees in Alberta public libraries is of great interest to me. That’s why I was very excited when a colleague recently informed me that a pilot project to remove user fees at Edmonton Public Library during the library’s centennial year was being made permanent! The number of people with library cards […]

The Corporate States of America

Here’s an interesting map of the best known brand from each American state (with a handy list of all the brands-by-state so you can see the smaller states that are harder to make out on the map)…

Music Monday – “Every four way stop that I approached/Hey, I was on the right/When I drove past your house again/Hey, like I always do/I think about the one thing in my life that didn’t come true”

An entire hour and a half long Fred Eaglesmith concert, taped in Holland? Man, I love the Internet for so many reasons…it eliminates time, distance and provides access to stuff you’d never see otherwise. I can’t imagine what it’ll be like in 5-10 years when literally everything that’s ever been broadcast, everything we can see […]

Why UPS Drivers Won’t Turn Left

I’m not so strident as to never do left turns or try to avoid them at all costs. But I’m not a fan of them generally and, if given the choice, will often do three right turns or go somewhat out of my way to avoid one left turn. I’m glad to hear UPS agrees.

Pirate Bay’s Longest Surviving Torrent Turns 10 Years Old

I would’ve guessed the longest lasting torrent would’ve been The Anarchist Cookbook (uhm, probably a bad idea to link to that, eh?) đŸ˜‰ but it’s not.  Instead, it’s RECIPES!!! Exactly ten years ago a Pirate Bay user uploaded a torrent linking to “Top Secret Recipes” ebooks. Today, this torrent is the oldest surviving torrent file […]

“Friends and Family in the News” Edition

Saskatchewan Naval Commander Helps Drug Bust Victoria Divita, only the fourth woman in history to command a Canadian Naval vessel, is from Indian Head. I grew up with Victoria (though I knew her as “Vickie”), she was in my sister’s grade, a couple years younger than me, and in fact, her older brother was best […]
