I’m a fairly obsessive journal keeper (less so since I’ve become an obsessive blogger) 😉 so, as we get closer to another all-inclusive adventure, it was fun to go back and re-read my entries from when Shea and I went to our first all-inclusive – the Oceano Palace in Mazatlan in 2000. (I’m also an […]
This site breaks down the political preferences of different professions. No surprise to see that librarians tend to be very liberal leaning. (I heard a good line recently – someone observed: “What’s the easiest way to tell if someone’s a liberal or a conservative? Ask them if they’ve read a book in the past year.” […]
I’ve been watching the growth of social workers in libraries with great interest. I think the first I heard of the idea was when San Francisco Public Library got one. Now it’s spreading to other urban centres across the US and Canada – Winnipeg, Edmonton, Thunder Bay are just a sample of some Canadian libraries where this […]
Now that 2016 is over, it’s time to look forward to what 2017 will bring. Releases.com is a site that gives the release dates of upcoming movies, video games and TV shows while also letting users rate their anticipation for various releases, create a personal calendar and more. Instead of my usual photo from the past, today’s post is unusual for a couple reasons – it’s a link to a web forum thread and I hadn’t seen it at the time it was originally posted a year ago. In fact, I had no knowledge of it until recently. But I wanted to share […]

Other years we’ve done things like put toys in Santa Anonymous Bins or other charitable giving. But this […]
Got a pretty exciting early Christmas present today with Ryan Meili’s announcement that he’ll be seeking the nomination in a by-election in Saskatoon-Meewasin. Here’s a photo from Ryan’s announcement of his Sask NDP leadership campaign in Regina in April 2009…
Still recovering from the US Election results, I ended up listening to Springsteen’s “The Ghost of Tom Joad” album this morning which seemed like a good fit with what happened in the Rust Belt last week (tellingly, in the New York Times story in that last link, the man who inspired the Springsteen song I’m posting […]
A Mexican brewery tricked Donald Trump supporters outside one of his rallies into buying shirts that appeared to have a pro-Trump message but, when the temperature rose, would display an anti-Trump message. The brewer promised to use proceeds from the sale to fund an election party in Mexico around the time of the election.
Sandos Caracol is the name of the resort we’ve booked for our hot holiday this winter. We’re pretty excited – as one review I read online observed: “One of the best things about this resort is that it has all the things you’d normally pay extra for as excursions or at least for an extra […]
