Saturday Snap – All I Want For Christmas…

…is an $18,000 piece of art! But I should back up… After picking up Sasha for her art class (she’s decided she wants to be an artist or art teacher when she grows up), we all went to Pile of Bones Brewery intending to have a Saturday afternoon beer/soda.  But it was packed so we […]

Music Monday – “This is where we test out our replacement needs/This is where we’re knitting mitts for refugees/This is where we medicate in bathroom stalls/This is where we call home from a payphone down the hall”

On Feb 25, 2019, Winnipeg’s Millennium Library installed airport-style security screening. This led to a massive drop in attendance. Many no longer feel welcome in this free public space. Community group Millennium for All is fighting for welcoming, just, accessible and fully funded libraries. “Millennium For All” – John K. Samson

Saturday Snap – #SaturdayLibrarian x2

Had a helper pop in and pick out a few books after her art class today while I was being #SaturdayLibrarian…

What Shakespeare’s English Sounded Like (And How We Know)

Inscription in Terry Fox Biography

I found this inscription by Terry Fox’s mom in a book in the Carnduff Public Library when I worked for Southeast Regional Library. Thought it was appropriate to post since today is the 2021 Terry Fox Run. And as a strong NDP supporter, I’m glad Tommy Douglas won CBC’s “Greatest Canadian”.  But if I had […]

New Southeast Regional Library (@srlhq) “Little Library” at Nickle Lake Regional Park

Can’t wait to check out (er, pun intended?) this little library out this weekend (and on a related note, I was hanging out with the new Weyburn Library Branch Head last weekend too.  Yep, I’m that cool!) 🙂 The “Beaver Den” is the park’s arts & craft shack but I’m still bitter that my entry […]

Throwback Thursday – #tbt – RPL Photo Shoot (June 2011)

Feel like I might’ve posted a pic from this photo shoot before but still love it (and believe it or not, I still have that shirt though it’s migrated from “suitable for a casual photo shoot” to “wear it camping while sitting around the fire, may have a few burn holes”!)

Saturday Snap – Campfire Reading

Love to see Sasha using a headlamp to keep reading by the campfire after the sun goes down…

Throwback Thursday – #tbt – Sask Book Awards/Alberta Book Awards (multiple years from 1997 to present)

Tonight was the 2021 Saskatchewan Book Awards and I also recently found the 2021 Alberta Book Awards on social media. I spent nearly a decade in the literary non-profit sector and both served on the board of the SBA for a few years (as well as a frequent volunteer doing everything from taking tickets to […]

Amazon Prime Is An Economy-Distorting Lie

I’m trying as hard as I can to avoid buying from Amazon as I’ve grown to *really* dislike their business practices – from how they treat workers to resellers engaging in fraud to simply the fact that Jeff Bezos does not need one more penny of my money. I mean, Wal-Mart is a shitty employer […]
