An Atheist Takes In A “Blue Christmas” Ceremony

It’s been a tough end to the year. There are some fairly major changes happening at work that will affect myself and numerous other supervisors in the new year.  One of those supervisors, a friend and mentor, died unexpectedly at the start of December – quite young but also getting very close to retirement, having […]

Svalbard: The Northernmost Town on Earth

After our blizzard this week, I thought this video was fitting.  Reminds me that things could also be a bit more bleak! 😉

Music Monday – “I put two and one together/And you know that’s not an even sum/And I know just where to catch you with/That well-known smoking gun”

First Snow of the Year (2021 Edition)

Always nice when the snow holds off until mid-November.  Makes winter feel just a bit shorter…

Funeral for a Family Friend

It was being used a bit before Covid but the pandemic definitely made livestreaming a more common option for all sorts of major life events including birthdays, holidays, weddings and especially funerals. Music Monday – “This is where we test out our replacement needs/This is where we’re knitting mitts for refugees/This is where we medicate in bathroom stalls/This is where we call home from a payphone down the hall”

On Feb 25, 2019, Winnipeg’s Millennium Library installed airport-style security screening. This led to a massive drop in attendance. Many no longer feel welcome in this free public space. Community group Millennium for All is fighting for welcoming, just, accessible and fully funded libraries. “Millennium For All” – John K. Samson

Friday Fun Link – Regina Company Releases Virtual Reality Hockey Game

My wife is really excited to know I’m going to be wearing something over my eyes while swinging a hockey stick around in our living room – welcome to the future! 😉

Friday Fun Link – “The Years Have Flown By” 50th Anniversary Charter Plane Ride

I alluded to this in Thursday’s post when I wrote “the years have flown by” about my mom and dad’s 50th Anniversary.  But I didn’t want to give away the big surprise I had planned for their anniversary gift knowing they read my blog. Honestly, it was a bit tough trying to come up with […]
