When we booked our two week Mexican holiday, we realised that was going to mean Sasha would miss her final dance recital. Luckily, they had a scheduling issue so the recital was pushed back to when we were home. That meant Sasha wasn’t able to attend the last couple lessons (including dress rehearsal) but she […]

After years without quite making it to the ultimate victory, in 1984, only one year after Wayne Gretzky was made his Captain, Mark Messier was drinking from the Stanley Cup. Some other fun facts about Gretzky, Messier and their intertwined destinies: * Messier had 37 points in his first season in the NHL and Gretzky had […]
As the big air competition begins in the Olympics tonight, this is a pretty amazing documentary. Fun friend-of-a-friend name-dropping trivia: The filmmaker is Mark McMorris’ manager who is married to a girl that I used to babysit. My parents even attended their wedding but my invitation got lost in the mail. 😉
I did not know that. Most remarkably, we have Nipplegate to thank for YouTube. Co-founder Jawed Karim told USA Today that he was inspired to create the video site in 2005 after not being able to find any footage of the incident online. It’s also too bad that Timberlake missed an opportunity during his performance […]
[Edit: Dammit! Literally two minutes after I hit “Post”, the Knights scored two goals ten seconds apart and my ha-ha funny joke about them being so good they even tie games they’re actually losing due to an ESPN typo is meaningless. And now, as I’m typing they’ve now scored an empty netter – 4-2 Knights […]

The Flames won their fifth game in a row tonight to get back into a playoff position (technically, that happened last game which they also won.) Anyhow, I came across this old picture of Pace climbing on his grandparents’ air hockey table and thought that was sorta related to tonight’s good news…
As a precaution, Sasha put on her boots and brother’s skateboarding helmet at New Year’s to play the lifesize Jenga game that Grandpa Dennis made for us. I’d upload the video of the game finally toppling when Grandma Joan tried a difficult move but I jumped pretty high myself when it toppled over! 😉
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…for all the many “best of” retrospective lists and articles and posts that come out. The Google Search compilation is usually one of the best (the YouTube Rewind one, not so much!)
After starting the season by blowing out the Flames with Connor McDavid getting a hat trick, the Edmonton Oilers, who were widely seen as a Stanley Cup contender, have sunk to near the bottom of the NHL (this year but by some historic measures as well). Forget the Stanley Cup, even a playoff appearance is […]
