One of my and Sasha’s go-to bedtime songs… “Golden Slumbers” – Paul McCartney
Thanks to community radio for bringing this song to my awareness a couple days ago. Useless trivia: the song doesn’t mention “Murphy” in the long list of Irish names it features even though “Murphy” is the most common surname in Ireland. Happy St. Paddy’s everyone! “It’s A Great Day For The Irish” – Judy Garland
Hard to believe but yesterday marks one year since the most recent NDP Leadership convention where Ryan Meili lost to the eventual winner, Cam Broten, by just 44 votes (less than 1% of all votes cast). As a cathartic process after the loss, I’d compiled a list of “44 Reasons We Lost” in my personal […]
Bruce Springsteen has been covering songs by local artists during various stops on his Australian tour – INXS, AC/DC and Lorde. Oh, and this one… “Staying Alive” – Bee Gees (Bruce Springsteen cover)
I bookmarked this song a long time ago but don’t think I ever posted it. Seems appropriate in light of Canada’s recent success in the Winter Olympics. “Canadian Please”. (If memory serves, this was made by students at UWO where I did my MLIS.)
Yesterday was the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles’ first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show where they performed to a record-setting audience of 70 million people. Here’s a clip from one of their performances that night… “I Want To Hold Your Hand” – The Beatles
After a blowout Super Bowl with what some are calling one of the best half-time shows of all-time, what other clip could I post but Bruno Mars… “Locked Out of Heaven” – Bruno Mars Here are a few other random thoughts about the Super Bowl… – if it hadn’t been for the Saskatchewan connection, this […]
In our digital age, where we are (or should be) trained to be skeptical about everything we read and see – was that model photoshopped? Was that anti-vaccine information published in a scientific journal or by a non-PhD holding, former Playmate? Was that B-level celebrity’s meltdown just an attempt to gain publicity and attention? – […]
I must’ve posted this as a Music Monday link (or just as a blog post generally) at some point in the past since I consider it the single greatest song ever written. But for that reason, you can never hear it enough and so here it is again… “Find The River” – R.E.M.
