We have a PVR on our TV and one of the biggest benefits for me is the ability to all but avoid commercials – either by recording programs and watching them at a later time or even while watching a show in near real-time. This is especially useful for “event” television like oh, I don’t […]
[Edit: I’ve gone back and added a few links to this post and re-worded a few points for clarification in the subsequent days and weeks after this was originally posted.] Just to be clear, even to write that post title made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. In fact, I still strongly […]
I’ve done this every year since I started this blog and once again, here’s a quick summary of my 2010 in meme form: 1. What did you do this year that you’d never done before? Since my grandparents lived in BC for most of my life (they left Saskatchewan the year I was born so how’s that […]
A secular holiday for the rest of us, Happy Festivus everyone!
A famous bit of Beatles trivia is that Paul McCartney woke up one day with the fully formed melody for “Yesterday” running through his head. But then, she came across the XBox Kinect – a motion-based gaming system where, instead of any handheld controller, your body motions are scanned by a camera/scanner combo placed somewhere near your TV and that’s how […]
I’m nervous for the Western Final today as the Riders (who squeaked past BC last week) face off against their arch-rivals, the Calgary Stampeders. There’s lots of commentary and analysis around the web – I like RiderFans.com, the Leader Post and have enjoyed The Jurist’s take on the Riders all season long as well. Oh, […]
I first saw Spike Lee’s documentary, “Do It Acapella” back around 1990 or 1991. In those days, if you saw something on TV, it was gone unless you were watching a channel like MuchMusic that repeated it’s programming on a set (six hour?) rotation throughout the day. In that case, you could set your VCR […]
Watching the rescue of the trapped miners in Chile over the past 24 hours, I thought it might be interesting to try to rank the most engrossing TV moments of my life. I’m obviously thinking of news events so “Canada wins Gold in hockey” and “First Survivor Finale” don’t make the cut. The rescue of […]
Not sure where I came across it but Atdhe.net allows you to watch a variety of programs online and for free. I feel like I’m missing something about this site but at any rate, enjoy it while you can – these types of sites rarely stay around long.
