Friday Fun Link – 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony

With so much focus on the UK and the meaning of the Queen’s death, I’m reminded of the amazing opening ceremony from the 2012 Olympics in London which captured so many unique aspects of British life and culture (while also being a real thumb to the nose to the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony!)

Music Monday – “When a couple of guys who were up to no good/Started making trouble in my neighborhood/I got in one little fight and my mom got scared/She said, ‘You’re movin’ with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air'”

Why Bo Burnham’s “Inside” Is So Good

Maybe because, like “Nanette” by Hannah Gadsby, it totally deconstructs what a “comedy” special is? Or maybe because it’s one of only a handful of truly reflective, unique artworks created during Covid that capture what this past year has been like? Music Monday – “But I don’t need no friends/As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset/I am in paradise”

Watched “Juliet, Naked” this weekend with Shea (who thought the tale of an obnoxiously nitpicky music obsessive hit a bit too close to home for her!) 😉 Anyhow, this song played a pivotal part of the movie… “Waterloo Sunset” – The Kinks

Friday Fun Link – “Songbird” Trailer

How did I miss that Michael Bay had produced a Covid-19 themed movie early during the pandemic that started production in May 2020 and was released in December? The reviews are predictably bad but I’d probably still watch it.

Friday Fun Link – King of Staten Island Trailer

Everything’s changing due to Covid and Hollywood is no different. This is a movie that would’ve had a fairly traditional release – film festival then widely in theatres then to video-on-demand – but it is now being released today directly to various video streaming services where you can “rent” it for $20 USD (more expensive […]

Happy May the Fourth to you! “Star Wars Theme” – Bill Murray
