The Flames Are Proving They’re For Real

Watching the Islanders-Oilers duke it out during my formative years in the late 1970’s-early 1980’s set the bar pretty high.  Being in Calgary during the Flames surprise magical run to game seven of the Stanley Cup final in 2004 was unreal.  2015 was amazing. But I don’t know if I’ve ever enjoyed watching hockey more […]

Throwback Thursday – #tbt – Go #Flames Go (December 2007)

My son has been a Flames fan since his first Christmas in 2007. I’ve been a fan a bit longer – I’m not sure when I switched from the Islanders being my favourite team to the Flames (mid-90’s?) but my fandom definitely clicked into overdrive in 2001 when Shea and I moved to Calgary and […]

Old Time Hockey!

One of the best games I’ve seen this year – felt like watching a game in the 80’s *and* the “Cardiac Kid” Calgary Flames once again staged a third period come back to win 4-2 after being down 2-0 for much of the game.

Talk about a long road trip!

Two Roads To Humboldt: A TSN Special

Perhaps the single most unbelievable thing about the Humboldt Broncos bus tragedy that killed sixteen people in early April is that two young men not only survived but are suiting up for the team tonight.

Tragedy Fatigue

Other than both happening in Canada, both being unexpected, and both resulting in large losses of life, there aren’t many similarities between the tragedy in Humboldt earlier this month and the one in Toronto last night. But the fact that both happened only a couple weeks apart when it feels like events of this type […]

Why Did #HumboldtStrong Resonate So Strongly?

The outpouring of support after the horrible Humboldt Broncos bus accident that killed 16 people and left 13 more injured has been unprecedented. People from not only across Saskatchewan and Canada but indeed, from around the world, have sent money and condolences. Tonight, the GoFundMe page that originally aimed to raise $10,000 and is about […]
