I’m sure every parent has times when they feel like they’re terrible parents – not doing the rights things, not sure if the lessons are reaching them. Letting them have too much screen time or not eat their vegetables or whatever – worries big and small.
But every once in awhile, you get a signal that you’re doing okay.
It happened a couple months ago when Pace and his girlfriend told us that they’d made bannock and took it along with some other food, menstural supplies and a few other necessities to a homeless encampment at Pepsi Park in Regina. They did this on their own initiative and at their own expensive. Because wherever you fall in the debate about housing/addictions/poverty, at the end of the day, you have to ask are you trying to do the right thing for another human being? Full stop.
Sasha being chosen by her Grade Eight teacher to win that grade’s “Belonging” award at the school’s first assembly of the year is another one of those signs.
And super cool to have a manager who had no issue with me shifting my lunch to attend saying “These things are important.” (Not every manager has been so understanding when I’ve tried to be there for my kids in various ways.)
