- Oyster, a “NetFlix for books” has launched. The obvious rejoinder is “A Netflix for books? We call that the library.” But the reality is that libraries operate on a loaning model and people involved with the creation and distribution of books – authors, publishers, etc. – tend to prefer more lucrative models based on licensing and/or selling. So it will be interesting to see how Oyster develops and what impact it may have on libraries and their own e-book offerings.
