Friday Fun Link – Thanks and Giving (October 10, 2008)

Is Thanksgiving just about turkey and a quick survey of what you're personally thankful for at your household?  A group of national organizations are trying to get people to look outward on this upcoming holiday.

“Thanks and Giving” is a new initiative of CanadaHelps.org, Imagine Canada and MacLean's magazine.

While family and friends are gathering this
Thanksgiving weekend to celebrate and share all that they are thankful
for, Imagine Canada invites Canadians to join a new tradition of giving
back, called Thanks & Giving.

Every Canadian in every community across our country
is touched in some way by the work of charitable organizations. They
clean our rivers, educate our children, research cures for diseases,
promote physical activity, preserve our cultural heritage, feed the
hungry and provide emergency disaster and relief services. Their work
helps sustain vibrant, healthy communities for all Canadians.  Thanks
& Giving is an initiative of Imagine Canada to encourage
philanthropic giving in Canada. Imagine Canada is a national charity
that looks into and out for Canada's charities and nonprofits.”

And we shouldn't need incentives to donate to charity but, as part of this new initiative, there's also a contest where people who donate can win an extra $5000 to donate to a charity of their choice.

“Share your Reflection Story and how you're giving
back to WIN $5,000 to give to a registered Canadian charity of your
choice. The winning story will be published in a future issue of
Maclean's magazine.

Contest closes 5pm EDT, Friday, October 17, 2008. Contest details (PDF).”
