You know you’ve exhausted every possible video on YouTube about your upcoming all-inclusive resort when you start delving into the whole sub-genre of wedding videos – glossy, professionally shot montages of all the expected scenes – the wedding party getting ready while drinking mimosas, the close-up of the rings, the awkward speeches.
Okay, I have a soft spot for these videos to be honest – partly because I’m a romantic at heart and partly because so many of these remind me of my and Shea’s Mexican wedding (no professional videographer present but we did have her brother’s friend running our video camera after her brother got dumped shortly before our holiday and had to find a substitute “date”.) 🙂
Anyhow, I watched the video below tonight and my absolute favourite part is that the best man apparently had a health issue at the last minute and couldn’t make the wedding so sent an audio version of his speech – which meant no one could give him a hand signal or even physically pull him off the stage as he told stories of public urination, breaking and entering, and how a bunch of friends had to scramble to get enough money to bail the groom out of a Mexican jail during an earlier trip!!!
(Okay, none of those are insanely unique in the realm of wedding speech “roasts” except perhaps the Mexican jail story. But the best-man-at-a-distance also sticks the landing by pointing out the irony that the groom’s worst day of his life and the best day of his life both will have happened in Mexico!)
Which is all a long way to say that I’m planning to not even leave the resort during our trip in a week and a half and hopefully don’t end up in any Mexican jails either! 🙂
