According to recent polling, a staggeringly small portion of the 22-to-45-year-old demographic watches cable news, and in fact almost 50 percent of young people do not watch traditional TV at all, instead opting to get their content from online streaming services, social media, and the like.
I’ve been a big believer in the power of the web and various online tools to influence politics for the better for a long time.
That belief has taken a hit with revelations of how social media sites like Facebook and Twitter allowed Russian trolls to manipulate voters to help elect Donald Trump (or just by reading the online comment section of my local newspaper!)
But ultimately, I think the power of the web – where we get information and recommendations and influence directly from people who matter most to us – is key to success in politics and that influence will only grow as more and more people live more and more of their lives online.
