I admit it – I have a “Google Alert” set-up for my own name.
Sadly, I’ve never seen anything come up about myself in any news reports. But every few days I get a notification about somebody somewhere in the world named “Jason Hammond” doing one interesting thing or another.
Here’s a couple other recent ones…
- Not a real person but an author has written a thriller with a lead character named “Jason Hammond”
- A very sad one but in all the carnage, there was even a guy named Jason Hammond who was injured in the Vegas shooting. He has a GoFundMe page set-up and I briefly thought about donating but partly because they managed to hit their goal and partly on the basis that I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that Americans are having to use crowdsourcing to pay their medical bills, decided not to.
- Again, not directly about Jason Hammond but a Rolling Stone article on a hacker-activist named Jeremy Hammond has quotes from his brother, Jason Hammond.
- And no link but my favourite “Jason Hammond” story is from when I was in London, ON doing my MLIS. There was another Jason Hammond in Kitchener who was running for the Green Party in an election while were there. People had already confused the two of us in a variety of ways but most embarrassing (from a privacy point of view) is that the company that printed his signs ended up sending *me* the invoice after finding my email address online and seeing that I was a Jason Hammond in Ontario (I mean, how many could there be, right?) 😉
