Glad to hear the Balcarres school backed off their initial ruling that a student’s “Got Land? Thank An Indian” hoodie was racist and/or offensive to let her continue to wear it. But I still think they made the wrong call in the first place to censor the student’s wardrobe choice.
(As for the CBC commenter’s question, “Could my kid wear a shirt that says “Got infrastructure? Thank a settler” I’d be more than fine with that too. Not everyone agrees but to me, free speech within legal limits is the ultimate goal and it goes both ways.)
At times like this, everyone should take a chill pill and keep in mind the noted philosopher Stephen Fry’s observation regarding offense which I’ve posted on this blog before (and I’m sure will again)…
