My old blog, which I started while I was library school sometime in mid-2006 and ran up until about a year ago at blog.headtale.com is no more.
Apparently the company that owned the Blogware software sent out an e-mail via all their resellers about a year ago saying they were ending their support for the Blogware platform. Blogware was one of the earliest blogging software packages but which has since been eclipsed by WordPress, Drupal and others so they were letting it go.
Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, that was the only e-mail they sent (and actually I have no record of receiving that first one either). But even if I’d seen it, I’d been told by my host that they’d keep hosting blogware blogs internally, even if the software was no longer being supported so I didn’t quite get (or wouldn’t have got if I did see that e-mail) that the rights holder was pulling the plug no matter what.
I don’t look at my old blog that often but it’s nice as a bit of a personal time capsule. And I also still get a few e-mails a year from people who are considering library school or who are at FIMS – thanking me for all of the content I had about what it’s like to attend library school.
I do have an archive I exported when I switched over to www.headtale.com (and never got around to importing to this blog unfortunately.) My reluctance is that I can’t be sure that importing those old entries to WordPress won’t overwrite all of my existing content on my new blog.
I’ve thought of a few different options but still can’t think of a way (short of buying a whole new domain and hosting package and doing a fresh import) to guarantee that I can have access to both blogs without losing one or the other.
So for the time being, that other blog is offline. I’ll post something here when it’s back.
