The funniest/scariest part is that I've had a site called BookSwim bookmarked before I ever saw this, waiting for an appropriate time to let it loose on the blog. Now is as good of time as any – just think, $23.95/month for their most popular “Pick 5” plan. What a wicked deal!
Seriously though, the fact that this service even exists does say something about people's expectations in an instant-gratification culture and the fact that public libraries aren't always able to meet those needs. In my system, we've recently decided to dedicate a part of our collection budget towards renting high-demand popular titles to reduce the holds lists for instance. So instead of being #70 on the wait list for the new Danielle Steele, someone will be #10 for one of the seven extra copies we get.
It'll be interesting to see how that goes…
